Be sure to have a good selection of soft drinks, and sparkling waters, not only for designated drivers, and non-drinkers, but for those drinking alcohol who will also need to stay hydrated.
Also, a lot of your dinner party planning will focus on the guests themselves. You’ll be limited in your invitations by the number of folks you can comfortably have around your dinning table. Another thing to think about regarding guests is how well they know each other. Sure, they may all know you. But, it’s a close-quarters event. If they don’t know anyone else, it could be awkward. You don’t want anyone to feel uncomfortable, or to feel like you have to spend an inordinate amount of time with them since they know no one else. In a sense, the small group size means your dinner party planning must include some social engineering.
Choose your finger snacks carefully. Choose foods that complement each other. Try setting a theme for the food in each room or on each table. Allow 4 to 6 hot hors d’oeurves per person. Don’t serve gooey, drippy sauces near expensive rugs or furniture.
Saying that, there really isn’t any way around catering a corporate event. I can just see the office staff trying to prepare a BBQ cookoff, or a gourmet meal for hundreds of their colleagues. This is just unrealistic. The best advice I can offer for this situation is, get three catering quotes and compare them. You’ll soon understand which catering service is offering you the best catering.
Besides while having a steady job, you may not be able to give your 100%25 to the business. There could be times when you have to meet the deadlines in the office and your business becomes the second priority. In this case, you will not get the initial success that you had planned. You will reap profits, but it won’t be just like you had anticipated.
A tradition at many 1st birthday parties is to let baby smash their cake. They get their own cake, whether it’s big or small depends on you and how much of a mess you want to clean up. Put the cake on their high chair tray and let them pick away at it with their bare hands is entertaining. The first taste of sugar and frosting may prove to be a great photo op for any guests. Removing any important clothes is recommended at this point!
Sleep on It – Sleep is a naturally healing, restorative process. And during sleep, the subconscious mind works overtime. If you are overwhelmed, try to take a short nap. You may be surprised at the great event ideas that will spring forth from a rested mind. If your hard event planning work has allowed you to become exhausted, make a point of getting a good night’s sleep before you try again to generate event ideas. A tired brain has tired ideas. Give yourself a better chance of creative thinking by resting.
Lists!, lists!, lists! I can’t stress this enough. If you keep an up to date list the chances of anything being forgotten or going wrong are greatly reduced. Anytime I have an event or even just trying to accomplish a goal I create a to do list. If something doesn’t get accomplished I roll it over to the next day. When planning an event it helps to not forget things like carded place holders for tables or napkins.
